you've got questions, we've got answers

Why should I consign and Shop with Just Between Friends?
Consignors have the opportunity to get money back from their children's high quality items, providing extra money for the household budget. Consignors sell their items without the headache of a garage sale. Consignors have the opportunity to find high quality merchandise at a fraction of the retail price. This is recycling at its best! Consigning with Just Between Friends is better than a typical consignment store because you set the price and your check is mailed to you soon after the sale. Did we mention that you make 65 - 70%? It is definitely worth participating!

I think JBF is great! How can I help to spread the word about the sale?
JBF is a win-win for so many in our community. Please sign up to be on our mailing list and then check our Volunteer Scheduler page to see ways that you could be of service to the sale. Our sale is truly a cooperative effort and we couldn't do it without our wonderful volunteers!

Customer Questions

Q.How often do you have Just Between Friends Sales?
A. Spring/Summer sales are typically in April or May and our Fall/Winter sales are in September or October of each year.

Q. Are children allowed on opening day?

A.Yes, children are always welcome at the Seattle JBF Sale but PLEASE use good judgment when you bring them. It is very busy and little ones underfoot may get into places they shouldn't so you will have to be vigilant and monitor your child closely at all times. If possible, give yourself some alone time to shop with peace of mind.

Q. Are the sales located indoors?

A. Yes. Sales are located in large open buildings.

Q. Are there any parking fees or entrance fees?

A. Parking is ample and there are no parking fees. Admission is free at the Seattle sale.

Q. What should I bring when shopping at the sale?
A. Write a list of your child's measurements, and bring a tape measure with you to measure the items. Use a waist pack instead of a purse or backpack. It is less to carry and you don't have to worry about setting it down.

Consignor Questions

Q. Who can consign their items and become a seller?
A. Anyone can consign their children's items with Just Between Friends. You'll make more if you have a minimum of 20 items or $50 worth of items.

Q. What percentage of the sales do I receive?
A. Consignors receive 65 - 70% of their sales less a $10 consignor fee (the fee is deducted from your check). Each Volunteer is asked to help the Sale if they can. If you are not able to Volunteer, you'll earn 65%.

Q. Who does the pricing?
A. You set your own price and you get to decide if it is discounted on our  half-price days. Check out our "how to tag" page for pricing guidelines.

Q. Should I star my items for the discount days?
(Remember: RED STAR on tag = Regular Full Price)
A. Be selective on clothes that you star. We suggest that you let most of your clothing items sell in the percent off sales. Mark the starting price up if it is something you are sentimental about, but of course it is your decision. Remember, starred/FP items WILL remain Full Price and customers tend to buy a lot of non-starred items on discount days.

Q. What percentage of my items can I expect to sell?
A. Most consignors at the other JBF Sales sell approximately 60 - 80% of their items in sizes 2-10. For sizes under 24 months the percentage drops due to the sheer volume of merchandise received. People also tend to receive infant clothing as gifts, hand me downs etc. The older sizes (12-16 ) may sell at a lower percentage as children become more selective when they near the teen and pre-teen years.

Q. How do I sign up to consign?
A. Just click on our "Online Signup" page and fill out the form. You will recieve an email confirmation within moments.

Q. How long should I give myself to drop off my items?
A. We have a check-in table with an assistant to help you fill out a small amount of consignor information. It typically takes about 30 minutes (dependent upon the amount of items you bring) to drop off your items. Your items will be inspected and then you place them in the designated areas around the sales floor. It is helpful to bring a wagon or small cart/hand truck to drop off your items. We will have some rolling racks you can use to bring your clothes into the building but they may be in high demand!

Q. When do I pick up my unsold items?
A. Unsold items are to be picked up on the last day of the sale (For Spring, 2009 Sale: Sunday, May 4th from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.) All items not picked up at that time will be immediately donated.

Q. Do I have to sort through the racks to find my unsold items?
A. Not usually. When you pick up your unsold items, we will do our best to have your hanging garments already sorted by Consignor# for easy pickup. As time and volunteer sign-ups allow, we hope to have all of the other items sorted, too. If we are short on Volunteers and do not get the entire sort completed, you will be asked to help with whatever is left to do when you arrive.  You may need to plan to help us by collecting your own toys/books, etc. Large Furniture items must be picked up from the floor yourself and do not qualify for donating unless pre-approved by JBF.

Q. How long does it take to receive my check?
A. Your check will be mailed to you within thirty days of the end of the sale.

Q. Will I know what items have sold?

A. Check out www.myjbftags.com ! Our tagging system makes it easy to create and track your tags!

Q. Where do I find safety pins/hangers?
A. We prefer plastic tube hangers which can be found at most discount stores. The other place to try is your local $1.00 store.

Q. If I consign my items, do I have to stay during the sale?
A. NO! That is part of the fun! Consignors drop off their items and put them out on the selling floor during the designated drop-off times and come back during the designated times to pick up their unsold items (or just donate and you don't have to come back!). We do the rest!

Q. What items are you taking?
A. We accept almost anything related to babies or children. The clothing must be current season. For our Spring sale, we will be accepting only Spring/Summer clothing. Save your Fall/Winter items for our Fall sale. Other great items are toys, books, videos, strollers, baby equipment, nursery items, large play equipment, bedding, cribs, changing tables, any season maternity clothing, etc.

Q. Can I bring jeans and capris?
A. Both of these items would be fine for the spring or fall sales.

Q. Do you take maternity clothes?
A. Yes, we do accept maternity clothing. All seasons of maternity items are accepted at both sales.

Q. What about shoes?
A. We do accept childrens shoes in VERY good (near perfect) condition. Shoes that show wear in any way really don't sell very well. Please bring only your best shoes to sell!

Q. What about stuffed animals?
A. We will be accepting very clean, fresh, stuffed animals.

Q. What is Mommy Mart?
A. Mommy Mart is a way for you to sell your household furniture. Large items must be approved in advance by JBF. Please ask us! We'll probably accept it, we just need to know about it so that we can plan our space properly and have your assurance that you will pick it up if it is unsold at the end of the sale.

Volunteer Questions

Q. Can anyone sign up as a volunteer and shop the Pre-sale?
A. Yes, anyone may sign up to volunteer on a first come/first serve basis. You do not have to be a consignor to volunteer. We welcome husbands, grandparents and friends.

Q. Can I bring a guest to the volunteer presale?
A. Volunteers may NOT bring guests. Each Volunteer must qualify for their own Pass. Each Volunteer pre-Sale pass is good for one person to enter the pre- Sale.

Q. How long are the shifts?
A. 4 Hours. Check out the available times on our "i want to volunteer" page.

Q. Do you provide childcare for workers?
A. We apologize, but we do not offer childcare at this time.

Q. I'm pregnant or have a medical condition. Is it OK for me to be a worker?
A. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, you will want to Volunteer when the workload is less. We have several shifts available with jobs that can be done sitting down. If you need these positions, please email us with your request after registering and we will try to accommodate your request.

Volunteer Presale Questions

Q. Who is allowed to shop at the presale?
A. Volunteers and Consignors shop first on Friday, May 1st.

Q. Can I bring a stroller to the presale?
A. Yes. However, due to the number of people shopping at our sale, it may be easier to bring a laundry basket with a rope or belt attached to pull your bargains behind you. We also have a hold area for you convenience.
